A MAJOR search and rescue operation is underway as police respond to reports of a person 'falling in the River Thames' tonight.
Thames Valley Police officers have been scrambled to the scene near Tesco Extra in Napier Road tonight (May 13).
Around 10pm, TVP Reading released a statement that said officers and emergency services partners were at the site and a search was underway.
The statement said: "We are currently dealing with a report of a person falling into the River Thames at Kings Meadow."
The force advised people to 'please avoid the area' while officers deal with the incident.
