Dozens of residents gathered at the Southcote Community Centre for lunch and songs at the inaugural meeting of the group last Monday.
A whole host of activities including quizzes, prize bingo and raffles will be on offer for those who want to join in at the free meetings every Monday, from 1pm.
Cllr Rachel Eden, adult social care leader, said: “I am very excited to see another older people’s social club opening in Reading. At a time when funding is down but demand is rising, the council is working closely with residents to continue to provide the services that are needed and which enable older people to live fulfilling, independent lives in their own community.”
The weekly club meets at the community centre in Coronation Square and attendees are welcome to put forward suggestions for what future sessions could include.
