COMMUNITY heroes received British Empire Medals (BEM) from the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire on behalf of The Queen.
James Puxley presented medals to five people at the University of Reading on March 22 to reward them for years of dedication.
Alan Futter was nominated for helping blind and visually impaired residents for nearly two decades as part of his work with the Reading Association for the Blind.
A medal was also presented to Frances Woolaway for services to The Ways and Means Trust and the wider Caversham community.
Mr Puxley said: "You all cover a number of needs and provide support and help in many ways to those who need it most.
"I am sure that all those whom you help are deeply grateful. We as a community should be most grateful."
A number of voluntary organisations were also presented with certificates after being nominated for The Queen's awards for voluntary services.
Robert James received his BEM for services to the Hungerford community, while David Wilson was nominated for services to music and young people.
