National media reports have identified the victim as Yannick Cupido.
Police have been unable to officially confirm the victim's identity.
The Mail Online reported that a friend of Mr Cupido said: "Everyone in the area knew and loved him.
"He loved making everyone laugh and he would always make sure that everyone was fine.
"He was more of a brother than a friend to everyone around here."
As a result of the stabbing, a section 60 order across Reading has been extended.
It is in place until 9pm tonight (February 15).
The order gives police officers greater powers to stop and search in a defined location when it is believed there is a likelihood that serious violence will take place.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 with reference 43210062322.
