Just as night follows day, so does ice cream succeed heatwaves and there’s a lot too choose from in Reading.
Shoppers have been queuing outside vans in the Oracle Riverside, Forbury Gardens and Broad Street for a dairy respite from the heat.
One ice cream man taking advantage of the sunny weather is Kolin Hoxha, 46, who serves the sweet treat from Mezzo La Strada in Broad Street.
“It’s the best time of the year for us, like Christmas,” said Mr Hoxha, from Burghfield Common, who has worked in the van for three and a half years.
The heatwave is expected to last until Tuesday, with hights of 33C at the start of next week.

Forecaster the Met Office issued an ‘extreme heat’ alert for July 17 – 19, with residents warned of adverse health impacts such as heatstroke or exhaustion.
Mezzo is open all year round from 6am to 6pm, selling hot drinks in the colder months.
“I enjoy everything, working, customer service, serving people,” Mr Hoxha said.

“It’s been very good to serve them, they are very polite, they are kind.”
Rising fuel prices have hit the ice cream trade, but Mr Hoxha said he is coping.
“We are buying more expensive things so we increase a bit but it’s not much.”
