Plans for a 70-bed care home and seven homes at Dorking Way in Calcot have been submitted to West Berkshire Council.

Located on the western edge of Calcot, to the west of Reading, the site is a parcel of land next to the junction between the A4 Bath Road and Dorking Way.

It is the second time someone has tried to develop the site.

An application for a restaurant/pub with of 16 houses and 12 apartments was submitted in October 2017.

This application was refused by West Berkshire Council and the subsequent planning appeal was dismissed over privacy concerns and not being in keeping with the area.

West Berkshire LPA and the planning inspector deemed that the restaurant and housing as proposed would not accord with the local development plan when considered as a whole.

The new application has trimmed the number of organically intended houses down from 13 to seven.

Barchester Care homes is behind the plans.  It caters for residents in need of full personal care and specialist nursing staff are employed to provide dementia, respite and convalescence care on site.
