Those planning a visit to Sonning may wish to postpone as a considerable amount of the area is currently flooded.
Advice provided by the government for the River Thames from Mapledurham to Sonning is as follows:
Property flooding is not currently expected.
River levels are high and out of banks along the River Thames in response to recent heavy rainfall and water moving downstream.
Flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected to continue over the coming days. Today and tomorrow are forecast to be mainly dry with a few light rain showers tomorrow afternoon.
River levels are expected to very slowly lower over the next 48-72 hours but will remain high over the coming days. Avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses.
This comes as another alert has been released for the River Kennet from Thatcham down to Reading.
Although property flooding is not expected, flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected to continue today February 27, especially in areas around Theale and Reading.
Today and tomorrow are forecast to be mainly dry with a few light rain showers tomorrow afternoon. River levels are expected to rise today in response to yesterday's rainfall, but this rise is not expected to be more than around 10cm.
