Changes are on the way at a Tilehurst supermarket.

The Co-op, in School Road, will undergo a rebrand and has submitted a proposal to the council to extend its opening hours.

Part of the changes include moving from its traditional colours of lime green, blue and white and trading under the name ‘The Co-operative food’ to simply ‘Co-op’ with a new design.

The branch also is adding a new sign to the store, ‘Welcome to Tilehurst’s Co-op’.

A spokesperson said: “The fresh new look would include Co-op’s iconic ‘clover-leaf’ design logo.

“Co-op’s history dates back 180 years, and as a co-operative, its members – it has more than five million active members – own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only price savings across everyday essentials and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.”

The rebrand is happening after the Co-op won approval for the shopfront changes on March 27.

The Co-op is also set to stay open longer as well.

The supermarket currently closes at 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and 4pm on Sundays.

As part of the changes, the store will eventually close at 11pm each night.

The Co-op has submitted a licensing application to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 11pm each day.
