CRIME was down at Reading Festival this afternoon compared to the same point through the event last year.
By 3pm, 256 crimes had been reported and 55 people arrested.
Chief Inspector Les Stone, the day time commander at the festival, said: "We are pleased with the way the festival has gone so far. The crime figures are lower than at this stage last year which is positive.
"There is a very good atmosphere on the site and we are continuing to work with British Transport Police and security officials to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time."
Crimes include 93 thefts, 68 thefts from people, 19 robberies, 16 cases of drug possession, 12 cases of drug supply, nine assaults and five cases of thefts from vehicles.
The arrests include 15 people for possession of drugs with intent to supply, 13 people for possession of drugs, eight people for assault and eight people for theft.
