THE M4 was reopened this afternoon after police spent nearly five hours persuading a man not to jump from a bridge over the motorway near Membury Services.
The motorway was completely shut in both direction between junction 14 and 15 until shortly after midday. The westbound entry slip road at junction14, near Hungerford, and the eastbound entry slip road at junction 15 for Swindon were also closed.
Police later confirmed that nobody was hurt in the incident but a man in his 40s has been detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
