THE planning of the town centre changes necessitated by the station development did start before the 2010 Borough elections, but Paul Bardos (Chronicle, July 28) has to understand that the inadequate consultation with the Access Forum, the confusing signage which led many disabled people to believe that they still had free access to the town centre, and the poor quality of the maps and other information supplied happened while Tory Richard Willis was Lead Councillor for Transport.
It was also on Cllr Willis' initiative and on his watch that disabled people were told, on March 31, 2011, that as of April 1 they could not use their Access Passes on the buses before 9.30am.
No transparency in either of these decisions, Mr Bardos, and no empathy with disabled people either. Labour intends to do better - and it won't be hard.
Cllr Pete Ruhemann
Chair, Access Forum
