ANDY YIADOM is poised to sign a four-year deal at Madejski Stadium, the Chronicle has been told.
The right back would become Paul Clement's first piece of business of the transfer window as the Royals boss looks to rebuild his squad for next season.
The 46-year-old previously stated he wanted to have more competition at right back, with Wales international Chris Gunter being the only senior player in that position.
Highly-rated Tennai Watson made his return from injury in the latter stages of last season, but it is thought Clement is keen on bringing in 26-year-old Yiadom to challenge Gunter.
Reports today (Thursday) suggest Yiadom will sign a four-year deal in Berkshire subject to a medical, having previously been linked with a move to Madejski Stadium during the last two transfer windows.
Sources told the Reading Chronicle that Yiadom, whose contract at League One bound Barnsley expires at the end of next month, had his heart set on a move to the Premier League.
He saw two top-flight deals fall through last year after a spinal injury scuppered his move to Huddersfield Town before a deadline day transfer to Swansea City also fell apart.
Yiadom, who moved to Oakwell from then League Two outfit Barnet, quickly settled into life in England's second tier and has been one of the Tykes' most highly-rated assets.
But Barnsley's relegation from the Championship means he is now looking for a move to a higher-division club.
The Chronicle understands Royals have offered Yiadom a significant wage hike in a bid to lure him to Madejski Stadium.
A source said: “I would be very surprised if the deal doesn't go through.
“He was always going to leave Barnsley.
“He had his heart set on the Premier League but Reading have offered him a massive increase on his wages.
“He has been one of Barnsley's most reliable players for the last two seasons."
It is understood Yiadom will undergo a medical at Reading at some point this (Thursday) morning.
