It was the deadline to complete any transfers involving overseas club on Monday evening with Championship sides looking to put the final touches to their 2020/21 squads.

The Royals announced the signing of midfielder Alfa Semedo on a season long loan from Benfica and Tomas Esteves from Porto in a similar deal to strengthen our ranks while Marc McNulty departed for Dundee United on a loan deal.

Now we look at the business conducted by our Championship opponents as well as touching on a small round-up of non-transfer related news.

The big news of the week involving the Championship, transfers and Reading FC obviously falls in the direction of Rodrigo Riquelme.

The Atletico Madrid winger had been training with the Royals and staying at the stadium hotel, but it was announced that he had signed for AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan.

Elsewhere, other Championship clubs have been successful in finalising deals from overseas with Watford using their ‘empire’ of owner’s clubs to bolster their ranks.

William Troost-Ekong made the switch from Udinese to the Hornets while Luis Suarez flew the nest, signing for Granada in a £10 million switch.

Both Gerard Deulofeu and Ignacio Pussetto link up with Udinese on loan while Jerome Sinclair and Adalberto Penaranda sign for CSKA Sofia on loan deals.

There have also been a number of players leave British shores for Europe. Nottingham Forest’s record signing, Joao Carvalho who initially cost £13.2 million, left the side on loan to Almeria while they also used their owner connections to send Tiago Silva to Olympiakos on a permanent deal.

The Nottingham Forest owner is in control of Olympiakos and Forest confirmed a deal to bring Cafu on loan from the Greek side.

Other incomings included, Preston confirming the capture of Danish striker Emil Riis Jakobsen from Randers on a permanent deal and Vitaly Janelt making the move to England signing with Brentford from German side Bochum.

Departing the league we see Niclas Eliasson heading for France with a permanent switch to Nimes from Bristol City and a number of loan deals away from the Championship.

Charlie Lakin heads to Ross County from Birmingham, Jan Zamburek links up with Shrewsbury from Brentford and James Morton moves from Bristol City to Grimsby.

Brandon Mason signs for St Mirren from Coventry and Connor Malley to Carlisle from Middlesbrough.

A trio of young Notttingham Forest players have made loan switches with Jake Taylor heading to Scunthorpe, Tyrese Fornah to Plymouth and Jordan Gabriel leaving to spend time with Blackpool.

Clubs have an extra 10 days to finish any business in the domestic market as QPR confirmed the acquisition of Macauley Bonne from Charlton Athletic. The forward scored a 94th minute equaliser on his debut at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday who completed a move for Calum Paterson from Cardiff City. Rangers also bolstered on deadline day welcoming Chris Willock from Benfica and Albert Adomah from Nottingham Forest.

Rotherham United and Swansea City headed to the Premier League for reinforcements confirming deals for players to make the step down.

Dan Barlaser made the permanent switch from Newcastle United to the Millers after a successful loan spell last season while Swansea loaned in Viktor Gyokeres from Brighton while Kristoffer Peterson departed to Fortuna Dusseldorf.  

The stand-out transfer of the week falls to Norwich City who received up of £25 million for Ben Godfrey.

The defender makes the move back to the Premier League signing with Everton on a five-year deal.

On deadline day clubs were busy finalising any additions or departures from overseas clubs.

Jack Aitchison completed a free transfer from Celtic to Barnsley while Riley McGree arrived at Birmingham City after leaving Adelaide United in an unusual arrangement. He has signed a permanent contract with Charlotte FC who enter the MLS in 2020 but will be playing for Birmingham on a loan basis.

Wycombe Wanderers signed Josh Knight on loan from Leicester City as they look to change around their Championship fortunes.

Elsewhere a former Royal was on the move as Joseph Mendes made the switch to Ligue 2 side Chamois Niortais after departing Ajaccio earlier this summer.

In other news, Swansea coach, Alan Tate has been handed a four-match ban for his encounter with Birmingham’s Jon Toral in the fixture between the two sides.
