Investing in your network
The population of Reading is expanding, and as the company that operates your local electricity network it is our job to ensure that it is able to meet the increase in demand for electricity. To ensure the network operates safely and reliably we are installing a new underground cable in the Mall area of the town centre. The work will begin on June 20th. For us to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible, we will need to close Gun Street, Minster Street and the footway to Market Place Square for a short duration to all traffic, except residents, businesses and deliveries. This closure and diversion will take effect from June 20th and a diversion route will be clearly signposted.
We have been working closely with Reading Borough Council and speaking to local businesses to minimise disruption. To avoid further road closures in the near future we are also taking the opportunity to lay ducts for two other utilities with upcoming projects in the area.
If you would like more information or have any questions about the work we are doing, there will be an information van in Broad Street on June 27th and July 13th.
