Contemplation of new restrictions

This time last year, the second lockdown had been lifted, with non-essential shops, bars, pubs and restaurants reopening for the busy pre-Christmas season.

The reopening occurred on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, which was dubbed ‘Wild Wednesday’.

This year, there are murmurs that the Government could institute ‘Plan B’ of its Autumn and Winter Plan, which would involve introducing a controversial vaccine passport ‘in certain settings’.

Elements of the plan have already been introduced, with mandatory mask requirements in retail shops, health settings and public transport coming into force on Tuesday, November 30.

Furthermore, anyone in England who has been in close contact with suspected Omicron cases is required to self-isolate for 10 days, even if they have been vaccinated.

An unofficially rumoured ‘Plan C’ involves the re-introduction of the ‘Rule of Six’ social bubbles and possible restrictions on mixing during the Christmas period.
