REDWAY Sonia A lovely voice from Cookham, Berkshire, Sonia Redway died peacefully on 18th August 2022 in Colchester. She will be remembered for her singing, cheerful smile and zest for life. Sonia lived in Cookham, Berkshire most of her adult life, where she was a neighbour, and posed for, Stanley Spencer the artist.. She continued to sing, while pursuing an administrative career at the War Graves Commission and for the RAF Police at Medmenham. She also helped her father, Major Ernest George Redway, who had retired from the Bedford and Hertford's Rifles, and worked for WH Smiths Antiquarian Books in London Street, Reading. Uncle Ernest died in 1960. My own memory of Sonia began with her visit to my parent's home in Torquay in 1945. Sonia continued to have a fond relationship with my mother Anne throughout her life. Since my move to Canada, in 1975 we visited England every other year or so, often in summer time when the Cookham wisteria is so magnificent. Sonia came to visit us in Canada in 1987. I was still working so it fell to my family to show her the beauty of British Columbia, and they all had a blast. My daughter Fenella and her husband (both school teachers - long summer holidays) did the driving, and Sonia provided the musical entertainment! Know ye, whoever reads these words: Sonia enriched all our lives and her memory continues! 'Brian Redway - The Canadian Redways'
