A FISH and chip van suddenly burst into flames in the early hours of this morning.
The van had been parked up in Yew Tree Rise, Calcot, since the evening before.
But firefighters from Caversham Road and Dee Road were called to the van shortly after 4am.
It is not known what caused the fire, but a spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said an electrical fault was the most likely cause.
The spokesman said: "We were called to a fire in a fish and chip van in Yew Tree Rise at around 4.20am.
"We sent two fire engines, we had two officers in breathing apparatus and a hose reels.
"We do not know how it happened, the owner parked it up the night before and something must have gone wrong somewhere.
"It was not salvageable."
