A DAUGHTER watched in horror as her mum was shoved face-first into the concrete after a thief snatched her Gucci handbag.
The woman, who was aged in her sixties, was thrown to the ground as the callous thief pounced from behind in a night time attack.
The pair were out walking just after 10.30pm and had just crossed the new footbridge in Christchurch Meadows when the shocking incident happened.
The raider grabbed the woman’s bag and forced her to the floor before running off. He then stopped to check what was inside the bag - which included a tartan purse, cash and bank cards - before continuing to flee.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Between 10.30pm and 10.45pm on Saturday 4 March, a woman in her 60s was walking with her daughter along Vastern Road, Caversham, to the tow path by the river.
“They walked over the new footbridge to Christchurch Meadows on the other side and along the footpath over the small bridge.
“A man has run up behind them and has grabbed the handbag of the woman in her 60s.
“The victim has ended up face first on the floor as a result of the robbery.”
The attacker, who was tall and well-built, was being hunted by police today.
The spokesman added: “The offender is described as white, very tall and well built. He work dark clothing, a dark woollen beanie hat and heavy boots. He had a bag across his body.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
