Yogalates is a combination of yoga and pilates that will fulfil your fitness desires in a new and fun way as you work out to some of the music chart's latest hits, writes Bethen Hughes.

There comes a point in every week when you are just too tired for a hard gym session and I am no exception to this. So a fitness class that combines both strength and flexibility with a way to relieve the stress of the day seems the perfect solution.

On Tuesday evenings I head down to Wessex Hall, yoga mat (or towel) in one hand and a bottle of water in the other, ready to begin an hour of a go-at-your-own-pace workout that is suitable for all abilities, be it beginner or experienced.

The session begins with a quick warm-up before going into a series of pilates moves, usually suited to fit in time with the song currently playing. With pilates being the more intensive side of yogalates, this is followed by a series of yoga stretches designed to relax the muscles you just worked.

Yogalates offers a full body workout: improving core strength, posture and flexibility, with its adaptability making it a great way to improve your overall fitness. The sessions are enjoyable and relaxing, and a great activity to do on your own or with a friend.

Whilst this is a society run by the Reading University Students Union, they do cater for non-students, with the ability to purchase a membership for £10.15 for the academic year.

The weekly sessions will begin again on Tuesday 18th March, the first at 18:00-18:55 and the second at 19:05-20:00. Go to rusu.co.uk/sports/Yogalates/ to find out more.
