LONG boat lovers across Berkshire have the opportunity to take to the canal for a free taster session.

On April 23, Drifters Waterway Holidays and the Canal & River Trust are giving people the chance to try out the sport at 19 different locations.

ABC Boat Hire at Aldermaston on the Kennet and Avon Canal will be one of the locations accomodating people keen to take part.

The taster sessions, which will run from 11am until 4pm, will include free short trips on skippered narrow-boats, as well as boat tours and holiday discounts.

Mike Grimes, head of boating at the Canal & River Trust, said: “For many people, a boating holiday is the start of a lifelong passion for our beautiful network of inland waterways. These free taster sessions are a great way to see if this sort of holiday could be for you, before committing to a full weekend or week’s break.”

People of all ages are encouraged to attend, with no advance booking required. Full details of what each site is offering can be found at www.canalrivertrust.org.uk/drifters-open-days-2017.
