A CHICKEN shop was saved from burning down by fire fighters called in the early hours.

At 4am a crew from Whitley Wood fire station raced to Reading Gate Retail Park by the Madejski Stadium.

There they found an outbuilding engulfed in flames.

Fire fighter Darren Taylor said: "It was fully alight. We stopped it from going over to the KFC.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation. We were there for just over an hour, an hour and a half.

“The complex burnt through to the roof.”
