A CARER accused of causing the death of an off-duty police officer and a pensioner has appeared in court more than a year later.
Agne Jasulaitiene, of Talavera Close, Crowthorne, did not enter a plea at Reading Magistrates' Court after being charged with two counts of death by careless driving.
The charges relate to an incident on the A4 in Wargrave on December 5, 2017, in which PC James Dixon and 91-year-old Gladys Goodwin were killed.
Jasulaitiene, 35, will next appear at Reading Crown Court on January 15.
A representative of the Dixon family said the fatal collision was a vital reminder to motorists of to check for 'vulnerable road users before they make a turn.'
PC Dixon, who was known for his appearances on Road Wars, was on a motorbike and Mrs Goodwin was a passenger in a car.
Wife Samantha Dixon said: “My family and I, along with Mrs Goodwin’s family, continue to live with the consequences of this tragic collision.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals who have supported us through this last year and await the next steps in the legal process.”
Sussex Police carried out an independent investigation into the crash on behalf of Thames Valley Police, while the Independent Office for Police Conduct probe is ongoing.
Samantha, was pregnant with their first child at the time of his death.
She gave birth to a son three months later and named the baby Parker Cameron James Dixon.
Matthew Claxson, representing Mrs Dixon, added: “The collision which took place on December 5 was a tragedy for all involved.
“The crash highlights the vital importance of drivers checking for vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists, before they make a turn.
“It would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time due to the ongoing criminal proceedings, other than to say that we are continuing to support Mrs Dixon and her family through the legal process.”
Mrs Goodwin was killed by the impact and her daughter Sandra Blunden said she would be 'completely lost without her'.
She said: “Mum was a fun loving, jolly lady that everybody loved as soon as they met her.
"We were together nearly all hours of every day."
