A PUB in Caversham is to undergo refurbishment and be renamed under a new lease, it has been revealed.

The Prince of Wales will join the Dodo Pub Co. family and be renamed The Last Crumb.

The lease, which was signed last week, marks a new chapter for the pub company with its first pub east of Oxford.

Leo Johnson, one of the founding members of Dodo Pub Co., said: “It’s a cracking pub that we can’t wait to transform."

“There’s a big car park which is always handy, a summer garden with a sheltered seating area and plenty of scope for us to put the Dodo stamp on.”

The Brakspear owned pub, which was established in 1896, will undergo extensive refurbishment to bring it in line with its stylish sibling pubs, The Up in Arms, The Rickety Press and The Rusty Bicycle in Oxford and The Bottle of Sauce in Cheltenham.

Mr Johnson added: “We’re buzzing about our newest venture and the exciting expansion of the Dodo family.

“Whenever we take over a new pub, we look for a connection to the local community and its heritage.

“After a bit of research we decided on The Last Crumb in a nod to Reading’s old biscuit industry.

“We also think it sounds cool to ‘go down The Crumb’.

“Looking ahead to our opening, we’ll be bringing our increasingly popular offering to Caversham, serving food all day and creating a really nice café culture for mums and dads to drop in and enjoy coffees and cakes with us.”

Located in Prospect Street, The Last Crumb, will open its doors towards the end of the year, with works due to start straight away.

The Dodo Pub Co.’s traditional yet quirky and inviting style will run through the new pub with its own personalised stamp revealed at the grand opening in early November.

The opening follows hot on the heels of the launch of The Up In Arms in April, which transformed a much loved but neglected community pub back into a flourishing watering hole.
