A PRE-SCHOOL in Caversham was awarded an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating earlier this year.

St Andrew’s pre-school, based in St Andrew’s church hall in Caversham Heights, received the award after Ofsted’s inspection on June 19.

This is the pre-school’s fourth consecutive ‘outstanding’ rating since they received their first in 2006 from the education standards agency.

Manager of the pre-school, Hilary Coome said: “Our maintained ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating is such an achievement and is the result of a huge amount of hard work from my amazing staff team, our brilliant Committee and our lovely families.

“It has been such a momentous year for St Andrew’s starting last September with our 50th birthday celebrations and ending the academic year with such praise from Ofsted.

“I am so delighted and proud to play my part in such a special pre-school!“

The inspection praised Hilary and her staff team.

The report read: “The manager is passionate and dedicated in her role.

“She takes great care to implement a range of policies and procedures which promote children's safety, welfare and learning at a very high level.

“The well-qualified and enthusiastic team displays exceptional teaching skills.

“They give children time to explore and practise new skills, build confidence in their abilities and fuel their own passion for learning.”

The inspector also commended the children in the setting and the enabling environment that St Andrew’s pre-school has created for them.

The report continued: “Children are exceptionally happy, secure and independently explore the environment.

“All children, including those who need additional support, make exceptional progress in their learning and development from their starting points.

“They thrive in the highly stimulating environment and are very motivated and eager to learn.”

Parent and Chair of St Andrew’s Pre-school committee, Sarah Adlard said: “Our family have had a fantastic experience with the Pre-school.

“My children have benefitted so much form the excellent staff and range of activities, and have really loved their time there.

“Ofsted’s ‘outstanding’ rating is so well deserved.”
