A POPULAR police open day event has been forced to cancel at the last minute due to the weather.
Thames Valley Police were supposed to have held their Open Day on Saturday August 10 at the force's training centre in Sulhamstead but decided to cancel it due to adverse weather conditions.
As the day is predominantly held outside, organisers felt it would not be safe nor practical to hold the event.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with strong winds of up to 50mph set to hit Reading and Berkshire on Saturday.
Chief Constable John Campbell said: "Due to adverse weather conditions and the strong winds forecast, our Thames Valley Police Force open day on Saturday is cancelled.
"I am very disappointed that we have needed to take this decision. I know this is disappointing."
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "The Open Day relies heavily on a significant amount of temporary structures and due to the weather forecast in respect of strong winds on Saturday it would not be safe or practical to hold the event.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused to all those who were looking forward to the Open Day as much as we were."
