TEN murder suspects remain in police custody after officers raided a council-run travellers' site, three miles away from the scene.
Pc Andrew Harper, a 28-year-old roads policing officer from Abingdon Police Station, died following a "serious incident" on Thursday night between Reading and Newbury.
The officer was attending a reported burglary and was killed while performing his duties.
Thames Valley Police arrested 10 boys and men aged between 13 and 30 on suspicion of murder and held in custody overnight at various police stations across the Thames Valley.
The men were detained within an hour of the incident after officers descended on Four Houses Corner, a council-run travellers’ site around three miles away from the scene.
Police have launched a murder investigation following the incident which happened at 11.30pm last night (August 15).
PC Andrew Harper was struck by a car and dragged under the vehicle for some distance, before being hit by another car.
He was a newlywed, who married his wife Lissie four weeks ago.
Mr Campbell said Pc Harper was a "highly regarded, popular member of the team", adding: "Everybody I've spoken to about Andrew talked about the incredible personality he was, what a fantastic police officer, and what a great friend and man he was, and he'll be sorely missed by everybody."
A post-mortem examination is taking place to establish the cause of death.
