BRITONS love tucking into an Indian takeaway - whether it's a celebration or just a Friday night in, and residents of Reading are no different.
The UK has adopted curry as a “national dish”, with more than 9,000 Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants and the creation of British-Asian dishes such as chicken tikka masala and Balti.
Chronicle reporters have scoured Tripadvisor to find out which local takeaways are home to Reading's favourite curries- and their hygiene ratings.

- Miah's - Garden of Gulab, Wokingham Road, 4.5*. Hygiene rating: 4
One customer said: "That was my first experience with Indian food!
"And I was more then surprised by variety and taste of the food!
"Extraordinarily delicious. Rahman is the best host. Highly recommend this restaurant."
Another review read: "Me and my partner went here for the first time on Sunday and we were blown away by how amazing the food and service was.
"Our server Rahman was excellent and made us feel very welcome.
"The food was very tasty and probably the best I’ve had in years.
"Definitely recommend the chutney tray.
"Will definitely be returning here and 100 per cent."
2. Miah's - Spencers Wood, Basingstoke Road, 4.5*. Hygiene rating: 5
Another Miah's restaurant comes in second, with many positive reviews to match.
On said: "We are regulars to Miah's and the service is always brilliant, with great food and plenty of options.
"Our most recent visit was for my fathers birthday where they were very welcoming and made us feel very much at home. service always with a smile.
"We also have had Miah's takeaway on several occasions which has always been great value with the food just as good as eating in."
3. Clay's - Hyderabadi Kitchen - London Street, 4.5*. Hygiene rating: 5
One reviewer said: "Third visit to this small city centre restaurant that serves what will probably be the best quality Indian dining you will come across.
"The food 'feels' really authentic (but being white British I don't really know about Indian authenticity).
"However, there's no doubt about the authenticity of the cheerful, helpful staff; a real pleasure to eat there marred only very slightly by a 'noisy' ambience due to hard surface decor."
4. Spice Master - Hildens Drive, Tilehurst, 5*. Hygiene rating: 5
One happy customer said: "Great hospitality, staff and friendly and food was great!
"Very tasty! Extensive menu, clean interior and cutlery.
"Onion bhajis lovely and big. Chicken pakora with salsa side was great too. Best Indian in Tilehurst as far as I am concerned."
5. Dhaulagiri Kitchen - Basingstoke Road, 4.5*. Hygiene rating: 4
Last on our list is another from Basingstoke Road, which someone called a 'gem'.
They added: "Found this place on TA whilst looking for somewhere for dinner.
"This is a simple little, cafe looking place with fab food, reasonable prices and good service.
"This isn’t a top end restaurant, which is why it’s so affordable and serves great food.
"I think it’s the food it relies on and having been to many similar restaurants, I can’t fault it.
"I had poppadoms with a good pickle tray, a Chicken Thali, that was the best I’ve ever had and Roti that was fresh and tasty.
"Great local eatery. Give it your support and give it a try, you won’t regret it. I’ll be back."
