TRAVELLERS who set up an encampment in Tilehurst 'several weeks ago' will be evicted by the council next week following court action.
The site, in Church End Lane, has been reported to Reading Borough Council, which was granted a full possession order by the courts this week (January 20 - 24).
Neighbours have spoken about 'unbelievable' amounts of litter in the area.
One resident said that mounds of mess can be seen at the site, explaining: "You can see big bags of rubbish everywhere, it is unbelievable.
"The travellers have been there for several weeks.
"It is also very close to a school, it isn't nice - there is loads of rubbish all over, you have to see it to believe it."
Pictures taken in and near the site show heaps of litter and overflowing bins in the area.
The council confirmed that the travellers arrived on December 22, and that they had visited the next day but the Christmas period prevented work until the new year.
A council spokesman added: "The council then had to wait from the courts for a court date to get the possession order, which was this week.
"The intention is to evict the group midweek next week."
