MORE than £6 million has been announced to repair worn out parts of the A4 road between Newbury and Reading.
Every day 33,000 vehicles drive on the road, and over the next year almost 16 kilometres of it will be resurfaced.
The Department for Transport will foot the bill of £4.5 million for the project, while West Berkshire Council will also put £1.6 million towards the repairs.

Councillor Richard Somner (Con, Tilehurst South and Holybrook), lead for transport, said: “I’m delighted that we have secured additional funding to further improve the road network in the district.
“It’s a road residents have told us needs resurfacing and I’m sure they will be cheered by the announcement today.”
The repairs are needed because the top surface is wearing down, and there is a risk of water getting into the foundations of the road and damaging it even more.

Repairing the top surface will protect the foundation and prevent the need for more disruption later on.
Cllr Somner added: “We have a good track record in securing national funding for local projects. It shows our ambition to do all we can to invest in our local infrastructure and ensure the district is a great place to live, work and visit.
“I look forward to seeing the improvements take shape very soon.”
