In a statement posted on the university's Facebook page today (March 4), claims were dismissed as false.
The post reads: "We are aware that there are some false messages circulating on social media that COVID-19 coronavirus has been diagnosed in individuals at the university.
"This ‘news’ is entirely false, including images of news coverage that appear to have been faked.
"To be clear: as of today, there are NO confirmed cases of COVID-19 among anyone at the University of Reading.
"However we are taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously and remind all students and staff to follow best guidelines on keeping yourself and others safe.
"All staff and students should visit our webpage Coronavirus – What You Need To Know."
