FIREFIGHTERS were spotted searching the River Kennet earlier today and have since confirmed they were looking for a person.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) explained they recieved reports of a person in the water near Bridge Street at 11.13am, this morning (March 16).
Two RBFRS crews from Wokingham Road and Dee Road were sent to the scene, alongside the Water Rescue Unit and mid-range boat from Caversham Road, the multi-role vehicle from Maidenhead and one Officer.
Ambulance crews and police were also spotted at the scene and the area around Pitmans LLP was cordoned off along one side of the river.
A spokesperson for RBFRS said: "Upon arrival, crews searched the river but found nobody in the water.
"After a thorough search of the surrounding water, the search was concluded.
"Crews were at the scene for approximately an hour and forty five minutes."
