AS the coronavirus outbreak continues to cause chaos and uncertainty across the community, many events in Reading have been cancelled or postponed as a precaution.
We have listed the various event changes to keep readers up to date.
Reading Gaol March
The march to Reading Gaol due to take place this Saturday (March 21) has been cancelled but Reading East MP Matt Rodda hopes it can be rearranged for the future. However, a virtual march will still take place from 12pm on Saturday and marchers can take part through Twitter and Facebook. People are being encouraged to post pictures of themselves and their family marching at home, wearing fancy dress, or sharing performances/artwork which celebrate the Gaol. On Twitter, people can use the hashtag #SaveReadingGaol and direct tweets to the Save Reading Gaol campaign (@SaveReadingGaol), and the Ministry of Justice (@MoJGovUK).
Reading Sports Awards
The Reading Sports Awards have been postponed until later in the year. The event has been rebooked for Sunday, November 29.
The Oracle's large events programme
The Oracle has decided to cancel its large events programme for the next few months. This includes their Mother's Day event due to take place today (Thursday, March 19).
Carters fun fair - Prospect Park
According to their website, Carters will not be visiting Prospect park from April 10-19. The website said: "We’re very disappointed that we can’t bring the fun of the fair to you but we hope to see you soon in 2020."
Doctor B's bike show 2020
Reading Toy Run's Facebook page explained Doctor B's bike show to be held in June has been cancelled. The post said: "If the situation changes there may be a possibility we can hold it in September."
Reading and Mid-Berks CAMRA Real Ale and Cider Festival
Reading and Mid-Berkshire CAMRA explained on Facebook that their Real Ale and Cider Festival has been cancelled.
Trinity Concert Band - Summer Dances concert
Trinity Concert Band announced the cancellation of their Summer Dances concert that was due to take place in June, on Twitter.
Their tweet said: "Please keep checking our website and social media pages for updates regarding the remainder of our concerts for 2020."
The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey
The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey has cancelled all of its meetings up to the Easter holiday.
Thames Valley Flower Club
Club meetings on March 30 and April 27 are cancelled to protect the welfare of members and visitors. Contact 01189 431079 for more details.
