The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates’ Court:

February 28:

OWEN MCDONAGH, 24, of Hillbrow, Reading, convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway service in Reading without having paid the £28.10 train fare on August 9, 2019. Fined £500 and ordered to pay £28.10 compensation. Also ordered to pay £50 victim surcharge and £160 court costs.

GIVENCE SILVABANZA, 21, of Chatham Place, Reading, convicted of travelling on a Great Western Railway service in Reading without having paid the £25.10 train fare on August 8, 2019. Fined £440 and ordered to pay £25.10 compensation. Also ordered to pay £44 victim surcharge and £160 court costs.

TERRY SLADE, 41, of Liverpool Road, Reading, admitted travelling on a Great Western Railway service in Maidenhead without having paid the £6.70 train fare on August 8, 2019. Fined £440 and ordered to pay £6.70 compensation. Also ordered to pay £44 victim surcharge and £160 court costs.

WARREN PARKES, 53, of Bayford Drive, Calcot in Reading, admitted using a 18-tonne vehicle on July 18, 2019, in contravention of local traffic orders in Crookham Hill, Thatcham in West Berkshire. Fined £100 and ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge. Also ordered to pay £175 court costs.

February 29:

REECE BARNES, 28, of Kennet Side, Reading, admitted stealing parts for a bicycle worth £114.48 in Gloucester on March 7, 2019. Ordered to pay £114.48 compensation.

March 2:

MARLON NORTH, 33, of High Street in Chieveley, Newbury, admitted assault by beating in Thatcham on January 28, 2019. Fined £150 and ordered to pay £205 compensation. Also ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and £450 court costs.

RICARDO BARBOSA, 41, of Willow Street, Reading, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order in Reading by not attending appointments on December 27, 2019, and January 7, 2020. Given a varied community order including rehabilitation requirements.

Joseph Lawrence, 37, of Meadway in Tilehurst, Reading, convicted of drink-driving in Wokingham Road, Reading, on September 23, 2018. Found to have 76mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. Original community order revoked due to being unable to carry out unpaid work. Fined £162 and ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge. Must also pay £200 court costs.

MICHAEL MCDONAGH, 22, of Lyndhurst Road in Tilehurst, Reading, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending unpaid work on September 8, 2019, and October 13, 2019. Given a varied community order including 90 hours unpaid work. also ordered to pay £75 court costs.

ALAN WATERS, 44, of Southend in Thatcham, West Berkshire, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending unpaid work induction on December 30, 2019, and appointments on December 31, 2019, and January 9, 2020. Fined £40 and ordered to pay £30 court costs.

March 3:

GERARD MCDONAGH, 19, of Wensley Road, Reading, admitted stealing £36.78 worth of alcohol from Coop in Finchampstead on February 8, 2020. Also admitted stealing tolls from a vehicle in Woodley on February 2, 2020, and admitted attempting to steal tools from a vehicle in Winnersh on the same date. Given a community order to comply with rehabilitation activity and 80 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £18.39 compensation and £90 victim surcharge. Must also pay £85 court costs.

KAVALJEET SANDHU, 26, of Westbourne Terrace, Reading, convicted drink-driving on the M1 southbound carriageway in Northampton on December 24, 2019. Found to have 85mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. Also convicted of driving while disqualified on the M1 southbound carriageway on December 24, 2019, and driving without insurance on the same occasion. Sentenced to 16 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months due to severity of offence, plus previous similar offence and high reading. Order also includes alcohol treatment requirements and 150 hours unpaid work. Also ordered to pay 122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 36 months.

LEON SOFRONIOU, 51, of Ramsey Close, Earley in Reading, admitted possession of Class A drug cocaine in Reading on January 20, 2019. Also admitted drug-driving in Whitley Wood Road, Reading, on January 20, 2019. Found to have cocaine in his system. Also admitted drug-driving in Whitley Wood Road, Reading, on the same occasion after being found with cannabis in his system. Fined £480 and ordered to pay £48 victim surcharge. Also ordered to pay £600 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 18 months.
