BILLOWING smoke could be seen in Mortimer over the weekend following a fire at a recycling centre in Padworth Lane.

A pile of waste caught fire on Sunday, May 17 and was brought under control by fire crews form Mortimer, Caversham, Dee Road and Whitley Wood.

The fire broke out at around 11.28am, and six firefighters extinguished the blaze, remaining on the scene for just under three hours.
