The following cases were heard at Reading Magistrates’ Court:

March 24:

BLONDINO FAPPIANO, 37, of New Lane Hill, Reading, admitted burglary other than dwelling after entering as a trespasser to Tesco Esso Garage and stealing £54.96 worth of items in Reading on December 2, 2019. Admitted burglary other than dwelling after entering as a trespasser into Unit 9 Brunel Retail Park and stealing £1,020 worth of items in Reading between October 18, and October 19. Convicted of a further offence of burglary other than dwelling after entering as a trespasser into Unit 9 Brunel Retail Park and stealing £460 worth of goods in Reading between October 29, and October 30. Sentenced to 24 weeks in prison due to previous record of offending. Also ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge March 25: TAMIKA WILLIAMS, 35, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing a Hugo Boss perfume worth £34 and Oral-B electronic toothbrush worth £79.99 from Boots in Newbury on December 9, 2019. Given a conditional discharge for 12 months. Also ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge.

March 26:

LEIGH-ANNA MARTIN, 31, of Willow Street, Reading, admitted failing to comply with requirements of a community order by not attending office appointments on December 13, 2019, and November 18, 2019. Also admitted entering closed premises in contravention of a closure order in Baron Court, Reading on March 6, 2020, and admitted failing to surrender to custody at Reading Magistrates' Court having been released on bail on March 9, 2020. Also admitted commission of a further offence while subject to a suspended sentence order for offence of being in possession of class A drug heroin on October 30, 2019. Community order revoked and sentenced to six weeks in prison suspended for 13 months for original offences including possession of class A drug diamorphine in Reading on June 13, 2019. Original offence also includes conviction for committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge in Reading imposed on January 22, 2019. Fined £30.

STEPHEN PAINTER, 43, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing £160 worth of alcohol from The Co-op in Reading on January 12, 2020. Also admitted stealing £30 worth of meat from The Co-op in Reading on December 6, 2019, and admitted stealing £50 worth of meat from The Co-op in Reading on December 4, 2019. Also admitted commission of a further offence while subject to a suspended sentence for four shoplifting charges. Admitted failing to surrender to Reading Magistrates' Court on March 19, 2020. Also admitted stealing a jacket worth £62.99 from Superdry in Reading on February 6, 2020, and admitted stealing meat products worth £29.40 from The Co-op in Tilehurst on March 14, 2020. Sentenced to 30 weeks in prison due to previous record of offending and offence committed while defendant subject to a suspended sentence order. Also ordered to pay £181 victim surcharge.

March 27:

ANDREW BIGGS, 48, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing six bottles of vodka worth £137.94 from Costco in Reading on March 2, 2020, and admitted stealing four bottles of Grey Goose and one bottle of Baileys worth £113.95 from Costco in Reading on March 3, 2020. Also admitted stealing clothes and vodka worth £536.20 from the same shop on March 4, 2020. Given a conditional discharge for 18 months and ordered to pay £251.89 compensation.

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. The principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of interest.
