1. The Roebuck - 4.5*
The Roebuck is a traditional pub, popular with locals and visitors, and has plenty of outdoor seating.
But don't just take our word for it - TripAdvisor rates this venue as 4.5/5*
A review left on the site last year describes it as 'a gem of a place', with the reviewer saying: "It's a traditional pub, food sourced locally and very tasty I might add, warm and friendly staff, very clean, fabulous entertainment on the night we were there, also has a great beer garden to boot, thank you to the staff you made our night special, polite couldn’t do enough, we will definitely be returning when I come back to Reading.
"What a gem of a place. The owner should be proud."
2. The Farriers Arms Reading- 4/5*
The Farriers Arms, on Basingstoke Road, offers a vibrant atmosphere with spacious outdoor seating.
Also rated as 4.5/5 stars on TripAdvisor, one reviewer said: "Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff, will definitely be back.
"There's a closed in garden for children also."
3. Wee Waif, Hungry Horse - 4*
This pub located on Old Bath Road has everything you could want for a sunny weekend.
The outdoor seating area is green and spacious, and TripAdvisor has rated the Wee Waif as 4/5 stars, with some glowing recent reviews.
One reads: "Service was excellent with delicious food and a spacious environment.
"Great for a family and kids! Our meals were prepared with great speed and with no complaints. Overall a very pleasant experience."

4. The Hope Tap - 3.5*
Among the Wetherspoon pubs in Reading is The Hope Tap.
Located on Friar Street, it is perfect if you are in the centre of town and fancy a rest.
The outdoor seating overlooks the busy streets.
TripAdviser rates this pub as 3.5/5 stars.
One descriptive reviewer explained: "Met up with a friend for my first post lockdown pint and have to say that compared with previous visits it was surprisingly empty - especially considering it was one of the days when thanks to government help you could get 50% off meals.
"Meals took a while to arrive at our table but we weren’t in a rush so no problem - great value at under £12 for two pizzas with drinks and a side of halloumi fries.
"Toilets are a hike upstairs and there’s a beer garden/smokers corner out back.
"The pub is a typical Wetherspoon watering hole - nothing special but if you want cheap beer and food you can’t go wrong.
"Covid locator forms are available near the entrance but it’s self help and appears not to be enforced."
5. The Poachers - 3.5*
Located in Mill Lane, The Poachers had a large beer garden ideal for relaxing in.
Also rated as 3.5/5 stars on TripAdvisor, one reviewer said the pub has 'so much potential.'
They added: "I love this pub, great to watch football games with friends in a more mature venue.
"The food is good. It needs a bit of a refurb and maybe more options of craft beers, gins etc.. some offers when big games are on also could bring in more locals."
