AN INTERACTIVE map has revealed which areas of Reading were hit the hardest by Covid-19 deaths between March and June.

Using Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures, the map highlights 'hotspot' areas which have seen more deaths than others resulting from coronavirus.

The data includes all deaths where Covid-19 was the underlying cause, or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor, between March 1 and June 30.

The geographical sections used by the ONS are small areas which have a similarly sized population and do not necessarily correlate with wards or other political boundaries.

Reading Chronicle:

The map using circles to present the amount of deaths recorded per area, and shows that Coley Park saw the most deaths in the four month period, with 25 people in this area dying of/with coronavirus during that time.

Norcot North also saw a higher amount, with 23 deaths.

Looking slightly further out, 22 people died in this timeframe in Winnersh, while the Wokingham Road area saw 15 deaths and Sonning saw 13.

Most other areas in Reading are presented by smaller, lighter "circles", and recorded a figure between 0 and 10 in this four month period.

The map only represents deaths up until June.

The most updated figures reveal that 895 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Reading by 9am on Wednesday (September 9), and the rate of infection in Reading now stands at 553 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 545.

In total, 190 people in Reading have now died of Covid-19, according to Public Health England.

The victims were among 3,568 deaths recorded across the South East.
