A BUTCHERY has announced its closure in Caversham, almost a century after it first opened.
Jennings of Caversham, the butchery on Prospect Street, announced to customers in a letter that is was to officially cease trading on September 30.
The letter read: "We are proud that Jennings of Caversham have been supplying you with quality meats for many years, and it is with some sadness that we have to advise you that the company will cease trading on October 30, 2020.

"The decision has been influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has impacted the hospitality and catering sector so adversely and continues to be responsible for an uncertain short term future.
"With the tremendous effort of out loyal staff, we have continued to trade on a home delivery and limited catering level but our view is that this is not sustainable for us over the coming uncertain months.
"We wish to thank you for your support and business over the years. It has been our pleasure and privilege to serve you and we wish you every success in the future."
Company director Dawson Jennings - who's grandfather started the company in 1922 - said: "We will be forever grateful to our loyal staff, our customers and our suppliers who we habe enjoyed working with over the many years.

"We do however feel that now is the right time to go."
The news of the store's closure has been bad news for many residents, who have been customers for the butchery for decades. One Facebook comment read: "This is very sad news.
"I have known the guys nearly 35 years as I customer, so many memories. All the best!"
