UPDATE: Arrests made after 'violent' fight involving 30 men
Five people have been injured as a result of the incident.
None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
Police have issued a Section 60 order to the Southcote Area of Reading, which temporarily allows police officers greater powers to stop and search in a defined location.
The order began at 1.10am on Saturday, December 12, and will be in place until 12pm today. If necessary, the order can then be extended.
Detective Superintendent Rebecca Mears, said: “We are currently investigating this public order incident and anyone with information or footage of the incident should call 101 quoting reference 2431 11/12/20.
“Or if they wish to report anonymously they can do so by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
“A Section 60 order has also been authorised giving our officers the authority to use their powers under Section 60 to help the police prevent serious violence.”
“This will understandably cause concern in the local community, but I would like for members of the public to be reassured that this order is in place to prevent any re-occurrence of such incidents.
“During the period in which the order is in place, there will be an increase of police officers in the Southcote area of Reading.
“Using these increased powers, officers are able to stop and search anybody within a defined area while it is activated, with or without reasonable grounds to do so.
“Please don’t be worried if you are stopped by an officer, as this does not mean that you are in trouble.
“Do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers with any concerns that you may have. They will be happy to address these with you and also offer any advice or reassurance.”
