A Japanese takeaway in the town centre will take over a neighbouring betting shop, transforming itself into a restaurant.
Kokoro has been given permission by the council to combine its current site at 29 Queen Victoria Street with number 31 – the vacant former William Hill next door.
This will enable space for the takeaway to become a restaurant, with seating in both areas.

Numbers 1-32 Queen Victoria Street are all classified as Grade II listed buildings.
These buildings were listed in December 1978.
Kokoro has more than 30 chains in the UK, with sites in Maidenhead, Windsor and Oxford.

It serves Sushi, Katsu Curry, and noodle dishes.
The new and bigger Kokoro store in Reading will now be right next door to rival Itsu.
