Hundreds of roads in Reading are getting an extra bin collection this week to prevent households going three weeks without a collection.
The launch of the new weekly food waste collections for many Reading Borough Council (RBC) households is next week (from February 1).
Collection days for grey and red bins are also changing for most homes on the same day.

Some properties would have a delay of three weeks between grey bin collections as a result of the changes, so the council has decided to provide an extra collection this week.
For example, if you live on Aberford Close, you would have had your grey bin collected last week and then your next collection would normally be next week.
But the changes to the schedule mean it will now not be until February 10 – a three-week delay.
This week’s extra collection will avoid such a long pause between collections.

If your street is on the list, you should present both your grey and red bins for collection at the same time on your scheduled collection day.

The council said: “We will do our utmost to collect both bins on the same day, but if we can’t we will return early the following day so please leave your bin out overnight.”
