Thatcham South East and Bradfield is the area of West Berkshire that recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases last week.

The latest figures show 421 people tested positive for the virus in West Berkshire between January 12 to January 19 – 89 fewer than in the previous week.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

In Thatcham South East and Bradfield, 33 people tested positive for the virus.

There were 30 confirmed cases in Westwood, 28 in Newbury Central and Greenham, 25 in Calcot South and 24 in Calcot North and Little Heath.

Thatcham Town recorded 24 cases and another 24 people tested positive in Chieveley, East Ilsley and Compton.

There were 22 cases in Hungerford, 21 in Hermitage and Cold Ash and 19 in Burghfield Common.

When the second national lockdown was lifted on December 2, West Berkshire had one of the lowest infection rates in the country (54.9 cases per 100,000 people).

It peaked at 430.4 cases per 100,000 on January 2, after a new and more infectious strain of the virus caused the number of cases to surge, but it now stands at 265.7.
