A SECOND possible case of a fatal dog disease has been reported by a local vets.
Earlier this week, Burghfield and Goring Veterinary Surgeries posted an update to warn locals after social media posts were shared, announcing that a dog had died after developing Alabama rot following a walk in Goring.
Yesterday (January 27), a Tilehurst veterinary surgery announced another possible case.
Castle Vets, Tilehurst Road, posted a statement reading: "Tonight we have seen a potential case of CRGV or Alabama Rot.
"This case has yet to be confirmed but please be extra vigilant due to a recent suspected case in Goring too.
"This dog was walked in King Charles Meadows, Caversham Heath Golf Course & Whitchurch Meadows.
"If your dog develops lesions on the skin, especially on the lower legs, please contact your veterinary practice for advice.
"We still do not know what causes Alabama Rot in our dogs, but we do know that it usually occurs in dogs walked at this time of year that have been on 'muddy' walks.
"Please remember to wash any mud off your dogs following a walk (we are sure most of you do this anyway to stop it getting into the house!)
"Please don't panic, this illness is thankfully very rare."
The surgery also provided a link to further information on the illness, which can be found here.
Residents have been advised to share the warning and urged to clean their dogs' paws following a muddy walk.
