Another Greggs is coming to Reading, with plans approved for a new branch in the south of the town.
Greggs has won planning approval from Reading Borough Council (RBC) to open a new bakery at the Whiteknights Retail Centre, near Whitley, Lower Earley and the University of Reading.
The unit was most recently a Carphone Warehouse. Whiteknights Retail Centre is also home to Tesco, Sue Ryder, and Specsavers.

The application was approved by the council on Friday, February 26.
There are currently four Greggs in Reading’s town centre, with two more in South Reading, on Whitley Street and Christchurch Road.
There is also a Greggs at the Asda on Chalfont Way in Lower Earley.
High street bakery chain Greggs has warned it expects to post the first ever loss in its history due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will not see profits recover until at least 2022.

The Newcastle-based company – which has axed more than 800 jobs amid the crisis – is anticipating annual pre-tax losses of up to £15 million against profits of £108.3 million in the previous year.
It will be the first loss since it was founded more than 80 years ago.
