COMMUNITIES can apply for £250,000 to help save their local pubs as part of the recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Rishi Sunak will use the Budget to deliver a Community Ownership Fund to allow pub goers to bid for up to £250,000 to save their favourite local.

Following the news, we asked our readers what pubs they would save under the scheme.

Mr Sunak said: "Pubs and sports clubs are the heart and soul of our local towns and villages – they're the glue that keeps us together.

"This fund will help to ensure vital local institutions aren't lost to those who treasure them most."

Royal Oak

Having had to close its doors like other pubs during lockdown, one resident in Bracknell said they'd happily nominate The Royal Oak to receive a funding boost.

The landlord of the pub on London Road has been keeping punters informed about reopening plans on April 12. 

Locals cannot wait for this community pub to open back up again.

The Barleycorn, Slough

Reading Chronicle:

Another much-missed pub during lockdown is The Barleycorn in Cippenham. It doesn't need saving as it's set to reopen like other pubs but people would love it to receive extra money.

Many Slough readers said they'd happily nominate this pub for the Community Fund to help give it a boost following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Last Crumb, Caversham

Reading Chronicle:

The pub has been operating as a takeaway service during lockdown delivering pizzas and their iconic burgers.

Even though it doesn't need saving, punters said this boozer deserves a cash boost following all it's hard work during the pandemic.
