A FRIGHTENING incident saw a man waving a firearm towards people at a fairground in Reading over the weekend.

At about 8.15pm on Sunday, June 13, police received a report that a person was in possession of a firearm in Palmer Park funfair, and allegedly waving it towards people.

Police attended the scene and the offender was arrested, however, no firearm was found.

Searches were carried out in a room at Elmhurst Hotel in connection with this incident but no weapon was located.

Nobody was hurt during the incident.

A 20-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has been released on police bail until July 11.

Investigating officer, PC Mark Skeavington, of Reading police station, said: “I would like to appeal for witnesses to this incident, or anyone that may have information about it to please get in touch with police.

“This reported incident would have been a particularly frightening thing to have taken place in such a public space. However, thankfully, nobody was hurt.
