Concerns were raised over the ‘perennial’ problem of geese poo at Christchurch Meadows at a council meeting this week.
In 2013, Reading Borough Council (RBC) said it would step up its cleaning of paths along the river after concerns were raised following a rise in geese and their poo on the tow path.
But resident Lib Godfrey said the issue has continued, asking what the council was doing about the issue at the Housing Neighbourhoods and Leisure committee on Tuesday.

She said: “There is so much geese poo down there which I was quite shocked to see this afternoon.
“There has been no attempt to control the geese at all. The excuse last time was the geese nest was outside the borough.
She suggested the council could round them up and take them elsewhere or cull them “as they are a health hazard’, but added “last time I was told the committee would never go for it”.
Concluding her speech, she called for “parks for people not poo”.
Labour councillor Richard Davies said: “This has been a perennial problem in Christchurch Meadows on the Thames.
“Every few years its comes up. I have been involved myself in trying to get some action a few years ago.
“The consensus of people is wildlife comes with what wildlife does. Cleaning is certainly an option.”

Cllr Karen Rowland, who was asked the question, said the situation with geese is not something she was able to respond to at the meeting as there had not been enough notice about the problem, but said she would investigate what the council can do to resolve the issue.
Mr Godfrey had asked the question as a supplementary to another question about Christchurch Meadows, with the resident also raising concern about a ditch not being properly cleared.
The ditch, which is also known as the ‘Dannell’ is an ancient drainage ditch which serves to remove surplus water from the meadows but also as an important wildlife corridor.
Cllr Rowland said a 100-metre section which has not been cleared to Ms Godfrey’s criticism will be when weather conditions allow this autumn.
