Royals defender Michael Morrison has slammed the EFL over a lack of clarity.
The club is currently unsure of the restrictions placed on them by the EFL as a result of breaching FFP rules.
Manager Veljko Paunovic confirmed on Wednesday that the club are expecting to be in communication with the EFL over the next week.
Speaking after Saturday’s pre-season draw with Charlton, Morrison called for more to be done by the governing body to give the club a chance to invest in new talent over the summer transfer window.
“I think we’re a little bit light,” Morrison said.
“It was plain to see when we played West Ham in the week, we made changes and at the moment we do not have a big enough squad.
“It’s nothing to do with the lads that are here or the management staff, it needs to be organised by the powers that be.
“There needs to be some guidance from the EFL.
“When you hear about Derby signing players, there seems to be a lack of clarity moving forward.
“As a player you want to see people come into the building, like fans it gets us excited.
“Competition is critical. We need it further up the pitch to get the best out of everyone.”
