MANY locals have been feeling proud of their town's athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

And it's no surprise when the likes of Tom Dean smashes two gold medals, making his family and friends proud in Maidenhead.

If you've been following the Olympic games, you'll have seen Dean's fantastic historic achievement and it may have inspired you to start swimming along the way too.

Not only does the Olympic games open our eyes to different sports, it shines a light on individuals who have trained hard and have their own personal backstories behind their success.

So if you're feeling inspired, we've rounded up some swimming clubs around Berkshire that you or your kids can join.

Maidenhead Marlins Swimming Club

Fancy training where our Olympic gold medalist swims? Then you can join this club right in his hometown.

Based at the new pool in Braywick Leisure Centre, the club offer competitive opportunities at Club Level, Junior League, National League, County, Regional and National Championships.

The club caters for a broad age group of swimmers with the youngest club members being 8-year's- old, right through to the Masters age groups which start at 18-years plus.

They also offer a swim academy program (starting at age 5) which is run in conjunction with the club and is a great port of entry into the club.

Bracknell and Wokingham Swimming Club

If you're based in Bracknell then you can join this swimming club with multiple locations including Harmans Water Primary School, Heathfield School, Lambrook School, Eagle House School, Bracknell Leisure Centre, Sandhurst, Licensed Victuallers School.

The club was founded in 1961 and aims for all members to 'achieve to their maximum potential, while at the same time having fun.'

We have a coaching team of 11, led by our Chief Coach, Matt Tuff. Alongside Nigel we have 2 level 3 coaches, 5 level 2 coaches and 1 level 1 coach plus 2 level 2 Teachers and poolside helpers.

Reading Swimming Club

The club offers lessons at Kendrick School in Central Reading, Highdown School in Emmer Green and Sonning Common Primary for children any age from about three and a half upwards.

Kids can join as complete beginners or to improve their skills, and progress through a series of levels graded via coloured hats.

The clubs qualified teachers are assisted by enthusiastic helpers from among our older teenage swimmers and everyone working in the programme is police record-checked, as are all of their coaches.

The club offers a 'pressure free' environment dispelling the myth that club swimming automatically pressures children.

They said that' the more you put in, the more you get out' so the club can offer up to 10 sessions a week and competitions if you want to commit to it.

Windsor Swimming Club

Windsor Swimming Club (WSC )is another option if you live in Slough or Maidenhead. The club is dedicated to competitive swimming; all the way from the Learn to Swim groups to Competitive Squads which include National and International athletes, and a successful Masters group.

Swimmers at WSC have achieved frequent success at County, Regional, National and International levels, with the result that over recent years.
