Reading is full of foodies and with more eateries opening up, now is the perfect time to try something new!

With more people venturing into the outside world after lockdown, many restaurants and takeaways have opened up ready for customers to dine inside again.

And new businesses will also be opening around the town, offering diners new dishes and flavours to tantalise their tastebuds.

Here are the latest additions to Reading town centre.

We have listed five of the newest restaurants and bars that will be opening across town.

The Coconut Tree

Closed town centre Italian restaurant Zizzi is set to be replaced by a new Sri Lankan restaurant The Coconut Tree.

The Coconut Tree, which has branches in Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Bournemouth, Cheltenham and Cardiff, applied to the council for a licence for a new restaurant at the 64 – 72 King’s Road address on June 15.

The restaurant describes itself as ‘bringing Sri Lankan street food to the UK’ and says customers will ‘experience an explosion of flavours in our vegetables, meats & fish along with sweet and fiery cocktails’.

High Spirits Cocktail Company

Scrap all of your Friday plans and visit this swanky new bar this week.

The new bar is opening on Friday, August 13, promising to bring a mix of tasty new drinks to Reading.

The cocktail menu serves classic drinks such as porn star Martinis, mojitos and Aperol Spritz.

They also have dozens of more drinks for the curiously minded, including Thai Collins, The Godfather Part 2 and Scottish Vergers.

Jollibee

A new Reading fast food takeaway will be opening on 81 Broad Street, and has more than a thousand outlets worldwide, including the Philippines, where it was founded, The US, Italy, and the UK.

Dishes on its menu include ‘Chickenjoy’ fried chicken, ‘Jolly Spaghetti’ and the ‘Yumburger’.

Gordon Ramsay Street Burger

A Gordon Ramsay burger restaurant is coming to Reading, with a licence application showing plans to replace the Giraffe unit.

The company is seeking a licence for:

Late Night Refreshment – on & off premises (Monday to Sunday, 11pm-midnight)

Sale of Alcohol – on & off premises (Monday to Sunday, 10am-midnight)

There are currently six Street Burger restaurants, with five of them in London and the other in Woking.

All burgers at Street Burger are £15, served with seasoned fries and unlimited soft drink.

This one's a wild card

A new restaurant will be moving into the former Pizza Express site on St Mary's Butts in Reading, although what kind of restaurant is unclear.

Gourtmet4, a food marketplace business, agreed to a new 10-year lease, without a break, for £80,000 rent (per year) in the site on 55 St Mary's Butts, Reading town centre recently.

However, the company owns a series of in-house brands, selling a variety of different food types.

This includes @Desserts, a sweet-treat parlour, 3Amigos, a mexican-style restaurant, Saucy chicks, Fat Burgers, Smokey Joe's grilled-food restaurant, Pizzaro, Smokin' Buns Gourmet Burgers, Tiki Tika, an Indian street food restaurant, Bangon Thai street food, and Ok! Ostrich Kick grill restaurant.

Gourmet4 have been contacted to confirm which of these brands will be operating from the site.
